Description: A volunteer project for a great cause ... two young married couples have decided to take on the challenge of biking from Washington state across the US to likely end in New Jersey. They bike with excitement to support Orphans with Aides in Africa. Their ride started on June 20, 2006.

BigRide2006.com was created as a supplimental trip journal for their sponsor site with World Vision.

Knowing one of these couples well, I was excited to volunteer to build a simple site for them. They have been supplied with a means to write a quick journal, track their position according to approximately 15 checkpoints, and record their mileage. As a result of a simple interface the homepage includes a dynamic flash map offering a graphical representation of their progress.

Friends and sponsors are also given the ability to post messages of encouragement to the team as they travel. While development time was short, a third party photo gallery offers the team a quick means to post a large number of pictures.

Graphical assistance was offered by graphic designer, Kevin Hardy, whom I hope to pull into more of my web projects.
